Helleborus x hybridus (H. orientalis)

Yellow, Pink, White or Red flowers up to 60cm (24in) from February to April and growing 60cm (24in) wide. Happy in most soils in sun or light shade.

“Lenten Rose”. As a precaution against the spread of blackspot disease, it is advisable to remove all of the old foliage in November. A generous mulch does the world of good. H. orientale has been grown in gardens since the 17th century. Seedlings are often an indifferent colour.
