Hacquetia epipactis

Yellow flowers up to 15cm (6in) from February to April and growing 20cm (8in) wide. Prefers retentive woodland soil in shade.

Fresh looking clump-former, producing heads of tiny yellow flowers before the leaves, made showy by collars of bright green petal-like bracts. Native to the Alps of Europe and the only species in its genus. Named for Balthasar Haquet (1740-1815), Austrian writer on alpine flowers.
