Gentiana verna

Bright blue flowers up to 10cm (4in) from April to May and growing 10cm (4in) wide. Prefers well drained, gritty soil in sun.

Native to Upper Teesdale in Co Durham and mountainous European regions. A lime lover that is good for troughs, rock gardens and raised beds. Beautiful but short-lived, comes well from fresh seed.
