Galanthus elwesii

White, scented flowers up to 20cm (8in) from February to March and growing 10cm (4in) wide. Happy in most garden soils in light shade.

The so-called giant snowdrop coming originally from the Balkans and western Turkey, introduced in 1874 by Henry John Elwes of Colesbourne Park near Cirencester. Variable in size. Possesses honey-scented blooms.
