White, scented flowers up to 25cm (8in) from January to February and growing 10cm (4in) wide. Happy in most garden soils in sun or light shade.

James Atkins of Painswick, Gloucestershire obtained bulbs in the mid 19th C, possibly from southern Italy, the plants subsequently named after him. They were highly praised by early Galanthophiles for their beauty and shapeliness.
