Cosmos atrosanguineus

Dark crimson scented flowers up to 80cm (32in) from July to October and growing 45cm (18in) wide. Prefers shelter, good drainage and sun.

A plant of open woodland in northern central Europe. A source of nectar and pollen for early bees which fertilise the flowers, then the seeds are distributed by ants. A selection of the species collected in Romania and named after the plantsman George Baker in about 1977.
