CREDALE NURSERY (Edward Smith)

Credale grafts over 100 varieties of Japanese maples, including many rare and unusual forms. Small plants to large specimens are supplied. It is also home to the ‘Credale Strain’ of Helleborus orientalis, which are hand pollinated to produce an exquisite range of colours including anemone & double forms.

16 Victorian pleasure gardens growing a mix of fruit, vegetables and ornamental planting. The gardens were restored in 2006 and several plots have unique grade 2 listed summerhouses. The attached retail nursery sells mainly hard to find hardy herbaceous plants and a wide range of Asters, hardy Chrysanthemums (dispersed National Collection) and Snowdrops.

WHITE COTTAGE GARDEN & NURSERY (Jan & MelBates)

The small nursery provides a regularly changing selection of less common herbaceous plants many of which can be seen growing in the 1.5 acre garden. The start of the season in April has a vast display of Fritiallaria meleagris, then the stream garden erupts with wonderful foliage and colour from the candelabra primulas. Gradually other areas of the garden come into their own with herbaceous beds backed by shrubs and many varied and beautiful trees.
